Hilton Waikoloa Village
-- Waikoloa, Big Island of Hawaii
The challenge at the Hilton
Waikoloa Village (formerly the Hyatt Regency Waikoloa) was to transform 65 acres of barren
lava into a lush and varied five-star tropical resort. TC&Ms role in the
ambitious effort included all elements of the landscape design.
Inspired by the sites
dramatic shoreline, TC&Ms landscape design reinterpreted this natural feature
into a series of man-made lagoons and swimming pools as a unifying element throughout the
site. The lagoons are habitats for tropical fish and birds. A dolphin encounter is a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for most guests. Throughout the resort, water is used for
recreation (swimming, paddle bats and canoes) as well as for guest transportation.
Due to the rugged nature of the
natural shoreline, man-made beaches were created on a peaceful inlet to provide guests
with a safe environment.
